For all my friends and family up north getting inches of snow, here's a picture of Florida's crummy weather. I took this a few weeks back, during the rainy season. Not to rub it in, but it's sunny and 75 right now. Pedestrians in downtown West Palm Beach dodge raindrops Wednesday afternoon. Tropical Storm Nicole was expected to bring heavy rain to the city but faded Wednesday evening.


A flag arrived at Marty Chase's house in Boynton Beach last month. With the flag was a letter sent by a New Jersey congressman, who wrote Chase,"Your judgment under fire during the Vietnam conflict saved the lives of countless brave warfighters." The flag is the much-delayed thank you for an unusual form of heroism: Chase, a munitions expert working for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, developed a new, faster-detonating type of grenade. Chase then advised the military not to use it. Story
