Pedestrians in downtown West Palm Beach dodge raindrops Wednesday afternoon. Tropical Storm Nicole was expected to bring heavy rain to the city but faded Wednesday evening.


A flag arrived at Marty Chase's house in Boynton Beach last month. With the flag was a letter sent by a New Jersey congressman, who wrote Chase,"Your judgment under fire during the Vietnam conflict saved the lives of countless brave warfighters." The flag is the much-delayed thank you for an unusual form of heroism: Chase, a munitions expert working for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, developed a new, faster-detonating type of grenade. Chase then advised the military not to use it. Story
